Teaching quolls to be ‘cane toad smart’

Quoll

Ella Kelly from Melbourne University appeared on the program, looking at an experimental technique that trains quolls not to eat cane toads.

The trial is taking place on Indian Island, off the Northern Territory coast. Researchers are introducing Queensland quolls, that avoid eating cane toads, to threatened populations of quolls from the NT and Western Australia. It is hoped the introduced quolls will breed and train their young not to eat the toads. The project is being run with the help of the Aboriginal Kenbi Rangers.
